How your Tartan is made.

The lovely silk Tartans supplied by House of Tartan are made on traditional looms - silk weaving is notoriously difficult to control and House of Tartan brings you generations of expertise and craft to your individual weave.

The 'Spider'

The Spider is used to line up the warp threads, the spider is loaded with silk bobbins of the colours in the tartan. The threads are then pulled out in the correct order as per the Tartan sett or pattern specification. This is both a skilful and meticulous craft as each thread must be in the right place and many hundreds of individual threads have to be lined up.
