The 'Warp' Drum
Once the threads are laid out horizontally in the correct sequence, they are wound round the Warp Drum until the correct weave length is achieved. The warp drum is then loaded onto the back of the loom.
'Tying in'
'Tying in' is the process of joining the new weave to the last weave on the loom. The individual 'warp' threads are tied from the drum to the individual threads from the previous weave on the loom. This avoids having to re-thread the warp for each Tartan woven. This is also very skilled as each successive Tartan will have different patterns and numbers of threads.
