The earliest surviving Scottish Tartan fragment is dated to 260 A.D., the tradition of weaving Tartans by the ancient Celts dates back even further. Recently mummies from early Celtic settlements have been excavated dressed in Tartans that would not look out of place in Scotland today and yet have been dated to 1200BC!
