Usually a 'ceilidh' will follow with traditional dancing - the band usually demonstrate the dances - unless of course you have an expert in your own family. The Bride and Groom will lead off the dancing with a traditional reel. As a mark of respect to their parents they would then do a reel first with the Brides parents and then with the Groom's parents. During the dancing it is traditional for the Bride to 'throw her bouquet' over her shoulder to the unmarried women attending, and it is said whoever catches the bouquet will be the next to marry. The Groom also removes the traditional blue garter from the Bride and throws it to the single men - again whoever catches it will be the next to marry - sometimes the man who caught it then puts it on the lady who caught the bouquet! |
