Hand Fasting

 2/5

'Handfasting is a old celtic tradition that you may wish to include in you wedding. The bride and groom hold their hands as the priest forms a wrap around them such that the hands are joined. Many different variations on this tradition exist. In old times, the priest would use the end of his stole to wrap the clasped hands together. In today's Scottish wedding it is usual for the handfasting to take place using clan tartans. Should both the bride and groom be of Scottish origin, then the two tartan strips should be wrapped around each other and then wrapped around the wrists forming a rope made of the two tartans symbolizing the joining of the two Clans.'
